The Embassy of Belize in Washington, D.C. is responsible for carrying out the foreign policy objectives of the Government of Belize as directed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The major tenets of Belize’s foreign policy are directly linked to our national objectives with regard to sustainable economic and social development, human and national security, the promotion of trade and tourism, environmental sustainability, and the preservation of Belize’s territorial integrity. An important component of Belize’s external outlook pertains to Belize’s strategic position as the bridge between Central America and the Caribbean, and its foreign policy goal of bringing these two sub-regions closer together in a dynamic and mutually beneficial partnership.
Belize’s diplomatic missions are mandated to work to enhance the quality of life of Belizeans through the proactive and effective promotion, protection and coordination of Belize’s interests in the bilateral, regional, and multilateral diplomatic spheres. To this end, the Embassy of Belize in Washington, D.C. works with its counterparts in the United States Government and regional organizations on issues related to trade and investment, tourism, defense and security, development assistance, and the Belizean Diaspora.
These efforts are pursued through the following mechanisms:
